Representatives of ABB and EADA’s company; the sorting and recycling company for Environmental services met at the Jubail campus in Saudi Arabia to sign an MoU for collaboration on energy efficiency and circularity solutions. This partnership will contribute to Saudi Vision 2030 in becoming a thriving economy and working towards a more sustainable future. The ceremony was attended by Erich Labuda, President, ABB Motion Services Division, Hussain Al Beshri, Sr. Vice President ABB Saudi Arabia and Sofyan Bani Hani EADA CEO with Mohsen Abdulaziz Alotaibi, EADA Board Member.

SIRC is the driving force behind circular economy investments in Saudi Arabia. Their mission is to collaborate with the private sector and attract both local and global investments to achieve the target set by the Waste Management National Regulatory Framework of 2035. EADA SIRC’s subsidiary responsible for recycling of Electrical, Electronic and Solid Waste transforming it into environmentally friendly reuseable raw materials.

The collaboration between ABB and EADA will play an important role in helping industries across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve their sustainability goals with a customized circularity model. The agreement covers joint activities such as technical collaborations, joint marketing activities, awareness campaigns about circularity offering to different industries.  ABB’s comprehensive products portfolio with the innovative high-efficiency electric motors and variable speed drives (VSD) as well as digital solutions can identify where energy is being wasted in buildings and industrial sites and with a comprehensive Energy appraisal, we can optimize business operations and turn it to environment friendly sites.

Sofyan Bani Hani EADA CEO stated, “This partnership with ABB is part of our ongoing strategy to collaborate with world-leading industrial companies. It will provide valuable opportunities for our customers to achieve their sustainability goals by learning directly from the experts in the field.”

Erich Labuda, Services Division President, ABB Motion said, “We are delighted to collaborate with EADA. ABB Motion Services stand for productivity in a low-carbon world, so it aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and through this collaboration our experts will work with EADA. By adopting circularity enabled with energy-efficient solutions and technologies as key enablers for a greener, decarbonized and sustainable future in Saudi Arabia.”

Embracing circularity not only improves resource efficiency and saves money but also enhances business resilience in the face of global challenges. To gain insights into key
trends, perceptions, and attitudes towards circularity, ABB Motion conducted a survey in October 2023, involving 3,304 senior industrial decision-makers from diverse sectors
and countries. The findings demonstrate that businesses now view circularity through a comprehensive lens that surpasses conventional recycling practices. This broader perspective encompasses waste reduction, sustainable design, and the development of resource-efficient processes. However, much work remains to establish a common understanding and metrics for circularity across industries as 91%are currently being impacted by resources scarcity.

ABB recently got the approval of its emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As part of the company’s efforts to enable a low-carbon society ABB submitted updated scope 1, 2 and 3 targets for 2030 and 2050 to the SBTi. The approval of ABB’s science-based targets by the SBTi confirms ABB’s approach as science-based in accordance with the Paris Agreement. As a technology leader in electrification and automation, ABB is at the core of accelerating the energy transition. We are committed to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 80 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050 and have already achieved a 76 percent reduction versus our 2019 baseline. With our new Scope 3 targets we will increase our engagement with our value chain partners on decarbonization whilst providing products and solutions to our customers to enable them to scale-up renewables, increase energy efficiency, electrify processes and reduce emissions.
